How To Comb Out Crochet Dreads

How to comb out crochet dreads. You may know a highlighting comb as a rat-tail comb. These are tips that I learned from combing out my own dreadlocks that i think can really help you guys out if you are combing out your owngreatmerchlabsco. Use the comb to start combing out the dread.
As time passes your locs will tighten and create more densely formed knots becoming more and more difficult to comb out. Often when using a comb to remove dreadlocks you end up only using the top couple of tines on the comb. Repeat this until you get to the scalp.
You may find it easier to work out your dreadlocks using a crochet hook. It has a long point like a thin knitting needle on the handle end. From the loop I just pull down slowly but firmly.
Once pushed through the dread angle the hook so that when it is pulled back into the dread it will catch different hair and not simply travel back through the same hole. So I have been locking my hair for about 12 years and Im ready for a change. INTERMEDIATE DREADS 6-18 MONTHS.
It could take weeks to comb out long dreads. Use a rat tail comb and insert it at the root of the hair. Heres where the dreadlock removal begins.
As you comb built up hair that youve shed over time will start to come out into your comb. Hold the loc and brush the end of the dread pulling the brush outward. Lay the top of the extensions parallel to the middle of your natural dread or where their widths match.

Make sure your extensions are the same width as your natural dreadlocks. I use the combs with a steel end to poke into loops I see. Make sure you have at least 3 days you dont have to go out.
Buy a jar of coconut oil and a good strong fine toothed comb. Take some conditioner in your hand and rub it on the loc. Then lift the comb out of the hair move it about 12 in 13 cm up the hair shaft and back comb again.
Twist the comb while pulling until you work your way to the end of the hair. HES BACK FROM MILIT. First of all youll need either a VERY sturdy metal comb like the kind used for backcombing dreadlocks OR my preference a crochet hook.
Your goal is to gently pick and poke directly into the end of the freshly cut lock with a highlighting comb freeing the hair from the knots it has accumulated. Brush the end of the dread with a small-toothed comb. Back comb the section of hair from ends to roots.
Comb the top end of your extension until its wispy. Take the pointed end of the rat-tail comb and gently pick out the bottom of the lock. You can still get rid of.
Hold the section near the ends and comb backwards by about 1 in 25 cm from the ends to the roots. Pick a dread and dip the first few inches in water. Combing out young dreadlocks is the best case scenario.

Coat the water soaked section with the spray bottle. Insert the comb at the root and twist it. You should anticipate keeping more healthy hair after combing out dreads within the first 6 months.

If your dreads are longer than shoulder length I highly recommend cutting them to shoulder length.
